For The Love of Storytelling.

I am passionate about creative writing in all forms. Old boxes filled with dust-covered screenplays, collections of poetry, and short stories fill my family’s storage. When I was 11-years old, I wrote and directed a 15-minute play called Mansion of Problems. At the time, we lived near a U.S. military base in South Korea where my father was stationed. Jim, a retired officer, managed the Arts & Recreation center on base. He was a kind man, so kind that he took my poorly organized production seriously. He painted beautiful backdrops for my set. He cheered the loudest as a cast of my friends fumbled through their performance in front of a small crowd in an outdoor pavilion.

Over the years I continued to write. Most of my notable writing was done in official capacities- for school, as a Linguist in the Army, as an Executive Recruiter, and for the last 10+ years as the Communications Lead for my own company. Between work, however, I continued to write freely- creating stories from both the imagination and colorful experiences with people. Continue reading to see some of my recent writing and if you have 7 minutes, watch my first short film, Dear Elijah (2020).

Short Film: Dear Elijah

After the tragic death of Elijah McClain, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor- I was haunted both in dreams and while awake. How have we reached the 21st century, our advancements in travel and technology, and our access to people from all walks of life yet still be mired by the most superficial part of our bodies?

This film is an ode to the needless deaths of Black Americans and the psychological damage that racism causes. It is also an internal commentary on how Racism is the “Great Interrupter of daydreams.”

Dear Elijah premiered at the Ateneum Museum in Helsinki, Finland, and was an official selection at several international film festivals. It won Best Producer at Toronto International Women Film Festival.

Film Warning: Language and Subject Matter may not be suitable for younger audiences.
